Artsy Fartsy Friday (on Sat.) ~~~ Dove Beauty Sketches

How do you see yourself?

If you had to describe your face to someone who couldn't see you ...what would you say?

 How do others see you?

If you had to guess how others would describe you...would your version and theirs be the same?

A few years back I attended a Mother/Daughter brunch with my then 10-year-old girl. My daughter was wearing a sweet outfit and I wore a new blouse for the occasion.  I felt that I looked good. Later on I looked at pictures of myself and thought...

"UGH...I've gained so much weight"

My face seemed fuller and I thought I should have applied more makeup. I was a bit bummed at how delusional I must have been to think that a new blouse would change the fact that my body was different. I brushed away those yucky thoughts and concentrated on my darling Daughter's beautiful smile and how much fun we had sharing that day together.

Later my daughter and husband looked at the pictures on my camera and my sweet little girl said "Oh momma you look so pretty in that blouse."

She was seeing her mom wearing a pretty blouse. That is all she saw. She didn't see the weight gain or the fuller face and my need for more make-up. She just saw her Mom who was wearing a pretty blouse.

You might have seen this already, but this video was sent to me by my best friend and I thought it was perfect for My weekly Artsy Fartsy Fridays post. I'm sorry it's a bit late.

Battle Cry~~~Me and I

anyhoo...

about a week ago I told you about my Daughter's interest in a certain werewolf boy.

I wrote how I reacted and I must say I reacted quite well under the circumstances.

Calm and cool on the outside

so now it begins....

                                   The war with myself.

...a civil war of sorts between my mind and heart.

The Mind yells..."Let her be! She is growing up and nothing you do will stop it! accept it and go on."

The Heart says...."But she's just a baby!"

Mind:  "No she isn't! She's fifteen and this is all normal."

Heart: "But that's just it.....she is ONLY fifteen!"

Mind:  "You'll get over it."

Heart: "Shut up!"

Mind: "No, you shut up!"

Heart: "I'll just forbid her to grow up...just long enough for me to catch up emotionally to all these changes."

Mind: "You're an idiot! Just wait until she starts to drive...which will be in less than a year by the way."

Heart: "Oh you're goin' DOWN sista! Get ready for a royal butt kickin'! "

until someone steps in to put the fight on hold

"Hey! Hey! Stop it! You guys need to put your differences aside and meet on common ground! I have just the thing."

"Mom, there's this boy..."

                                     "Mom, there's this boy....

"Oh....OK go on."

"Oh, hell no....go to your room!"

                                       ...and he's really nice"

"Oh...OK...I would hope so."

"There are no "Nice boys" at fifteen... they are all hormone seething, boobie obsessed werewolves!"

"Well, I like him...and he likes me too"

"OK, tell me a bit more about him."

"Go to your room and don't come out 'til you're 30!"

"He goes to a church regularly and he's really sweet."

"Well so far so good."

"Oh...PLA-ease!"

"He wants me to be his girlfriend."

"Well, I don't blame him. You are a beautiful, smart young lady."

"Oh no he di-n't!"

"I wanted to ask you first."

"I appreciate that. When you say "Girlfriend" what does that mean to you?"

"I said ROOM....NOW....'til 30!!!! And if I hear the words, kissing, car dates or see any hint of hickeys. I might be going to jail!"

"Well, we'd probably just hold hands."

"Yes, holding hands is OK I guess."

"Right,....ahem..."holding hands"....is that the new lingo for making out? Yep, I'm headed for jail for sure."

                                           "So...Mom....what's your answer?"

"I'll have to think about it and both Dad and I have to talk to you later."

"Before I talk to your Father I'm going to Mexico because doctors here don't have enough legal prescription drugs available that will fix the anxiety I feel right now! Are ya happy now?...Mama is about to become a drugged out zombie! Dr. Phil here I come!"

"How do you think Dad will react?"

"Most likely He will react just like I did ."

"I'll call the paramedics."
